"Both need to play …" - Cheteshwar Pujara on Dinesh Karthik, Rishabh Pant debate

Cheteshwar Pujara came up with his opinion on whom should be given chance in the playing XI of T20 WC between Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant.

After Dinesh Karthik had performed brilliantly in the IPL 2022 with the bat and finished many matches for the team, he was considered for the comeback in the international jersey. Since then it has been a debate about who should play in the T20 WC between Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik.

The left-handed batter could not leave his mark in the shortest format till now as he did in the Test matches. So he couldn't cement his place in the T20 Team of team India. But the X-factor he adds to the team has always helped him to be considered by the selectors and the team management.

Pujara's Statement :

Now, veteran batsman of team India, Cheteshwar Pujara came up with his opinion on this debate and told both should play.

In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, he said, "I think if I had to pick my No.5, 6 and 7 I would go with... with the kind of Asia Cup we had, we need to strengthen our batting lineup,"

He also said that while Pant can handle the role in middle order, Karthik would be an ideal choice as a finisher.

"I would go with Rishabh at No.5, Hardik at No.6, and DK at No.7. I think we need to include both. Rishabh and DK need to play," Pujara added.

He also said that if India needs an extra bowling option then Deepak Hooda can be used as a part-time off-spinner.

"Unless you're looking for Hooda to bowl a few overs. If he bowls, then I think Rishabh misses out, Deepak has to bat No.5," Pujara said.

The team combination of Team India has been shaken after Ravindra Jadeja got ruled out of the tournament due to his knee injury. Now Head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma have to decide how to fill the huge blank of this star all-rounder in this tournament.
